Van Freight Rates – March 24, 2025
DAT.com’s March 24th Trendlines Report shows that current national van rate averages are at $1.99 per mile, $0.07 less than the February average. According to DAT, the highest average van rates are in the Midwest at $2.19 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the Northeast at $1.84 per mile.
DAT reports the current national load-to-truck ratio is 4.28 loads-to-truck, compared to the February average of 4.73. Ratios are highest in the South central and Southeastern states. The lowest ratios are in the West Coast and Northern states.
Reefer Freight Rates – March 24, 2025
Reefer freight rates are averaging $2.26 per mile, $0.13 lower than in February. Reefer rates are highest in the Midwest, averaging $2.54 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, with an average of $2.05 per mile.
National reefer capacity is at 6.59 loads-to-truck compared to the February average of 7.83 loads-to-truck. Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is highest in the Southern states. The Midwest and West Coast states have the lowest load-to-truck ratios.
Flatbed Freight Rates – March 24, 2025
National average flatbed rates are $2.51 per mile, $0.08 more than the February average. The Midwest has the highest average flatbed rates at $2.64 per mile. The lowest rates are in the West, with an average of $2.16 per mile.
Nationally, load-to-truck ratios are at 41.2 compared to 30.1 in February. Load ratios are highest in the Eastern states. The Southwestern states have the lowest load-to-truck ratios. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $3.57 a gallon compared to $3.67 one month ago and is down $0.47 compared to one year ago.
East Coast diesel prices are averaging $3.68 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $3.49 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $4.78 per gallon.
