Van Freight Rates -April 22nd, 2026

DAT.com’s April 22nd Trendlines Report shows current national van spot rate averages are at $2.68 per mile, 16¢ above the March average. DAT reports the highest average van rates are in the Midwest at $2.88 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the North East at $2.39 per mile.

DAT reports the current national van load-to-truck ratio is 7.11 loads-to-truck, compared to the March average of 9.14. Ratios are even across the country, with the exception of lower ratios in California, Michigan, and Illinois.

Reefer Freight Rates – April 22, 2026

Reefer freight rates are averaging $3.13 per mile, 9¢ higher than the March average. Rates are highest in the Midwest, averaging $3.37 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, with an average of $2.64 per mile.

National reefer capacity is 12.39 loads-to-truck compared to the March average of 13.4 loads-to-truck. Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is even across the country, with Illinois, Minnesota, and Florida being the exception with lower ratios.

Flatbed Freight Rates – April 22, 2026

National average flatbed rates are $3.44 per mile, 35¢ more than the March average. The Midwest has the highest average flatbed rates at $3.52 per mile. The lowest rates are in the West, with an average of $2.92 per mile.

Nationally, flatbed load-to-truck ratios are at 73.07, compared to 76.45 in March. Load to truck ratios for flatbed freight is even across the country. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $5.40 per gallon, up 33¢ from one month ago and is up $1.86 compared to one year ago.

East Coast diesel prices are averaging $5.50 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $5.16 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $7.32 per gallon.
