Van Freight Rates – January 27, 2026
DAT.com’s January 27th Trendlines Report shows current national van rate averages are at $2.30 per mile, 1¢ above the December average. DAT reports the highest average van rates are in the Midwest at $2.65 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the Northeast at $2.17 per mile.
DAT reports the current national load-to-truck ratio is 6 loads-to-truck, compared to the December average of 8.56. Ratios are even across the country.

Reefer Freight Rates – January 27, 2026
Reefer freight rates are averaging $2.79 per mile, 9¢ higher than in December. Rates are highest in the Midwest, averaging $3.22 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, with an average of $2.42 per mile.
National reefer capacity is 14.42 loads-to-truck compared to the December average of 16.72 loads-to-truck. Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is even across the country.

Flatbed Freight Rates – January 27, 2026
National average flatbed rates are $2.59 per mile, 6¢ more than the December average. The Midwest has the highest average flatbed rates at $2.77 per mile. The lowest rates are in the West, with an average of $2.29 per mile.
Nationally, load-to-truck ratios are at 37.3, compared to 26.4 in December. Load to truck ratios for flatbed freight is also even across the country. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $3.62 per gallon, the same as one month ago and is down 4¢ compared to one year ago.
East Coast diesel prices are averaging $3.69 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $3.58 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $4.71 per gallon.
