Van Freight Rates – March 19, 2026
DAT.com’s March 17th Trendlines Report shows current national van spot rate averages are $2.65 per mile, 24¢ above the February average. DAT reports the highest average van rates are in the Midwest at $2.77 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the Northeast at $2.19 per mile.
DAT reports the current national van load-to-truck ratio is 7.73 loads-to-truck, compared to the February average of 8.29. Ratios are even across most of the country.
Reefer Freight Rates – March 19, 2026
Reefer freight rates are averaging $2.84 per mile, 6¢ lower than the February average. Rates are highest in the Midwest, averaging $3.31 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, with an average of $2.49 per mile.
National reefer capacity is 15.55 loads-to-truck compared to the February average of 14.07 loads-to-truck. Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is even across the country, with California, North Carolina and the New England states having lower ratios.
Flatbed Freight Rates – March 19, 2026
National average flatbed rates are $2.94 per mile, 24¢ more than the February average. The Midwest has the highest average flatbed rates at $3.14 per mile. The lowest rates are in the West, with an average of $2.39 per mile.
Nationally, flatbed load-to-truck ratios are at 73.75, compared to 57.11 in February. Load to truck ratios for flatbed freight are high across the country. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $5.07 per gallon, up 36¢ from one month ago and is up $1.52 compared to one year ago.
East Coast diesel prices are averaging $5.11 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $4.97 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $6.43 per gallon.
