Current Active Drilling Rigs – June 2025

Over the past month, oil prices have steadily risen. Prices closed at $60.79 on May 30th. From there, prices kept climbing and closed at $73.84 on June 20th.

The June 20th Baker Hughes rig count report shows a drop in the active rig count. Baker Hughes reports 554 active drilling rigs in the US. In April, the total active rig count was 587. One year ago, the total active rig count was 588.

The oil rig count is currently 438 rigs, compared to 483 in April and 485 one year ago. The gas rig count is 111, compared to 99 in April and 98 last June.

In the major plays, the Permian Basin rig count is at 271 rigs, 13 fewer than April’s count.

In East Texas, the Eagle Ford has 41 active rigs, 6 fewer than in April.

The Haynesville rig count is 36 rigs, 4 more than April’s count.

The Anadarko rig count is 47 rigs, 8 fewer than in April.

The active rig count in the Niobrara is 32 rigs, 3 more than April’s count.

The Williston Basin rig count is 31 rigs, 2 fewer than in April.

The Appalachian has 36 active rigs, 2 fewer than April’s count.
