Current Active Drilling Rigs – April 2025

Up-to-date Trends and Reports

Over the past month, oil prices have fallen. Prices closed at $71.48 on March 31st. On April 8th, prices hit a low of $59.58. From there, prices climbed slightly to a high of $64.01 on April 18th. Prices closed at $62.79 on April 24th.

The April 25th Baker Hughes rig count report shows little change in the active rig count. Baker Hughes reports 587 active drilling rigs in the US. In February, the total active rig count was 592. One year ago, the total active rig count was 613.

The oil rig count is currently 483 rigs, compared to 488 in February and 506 one year ago. The gas rig count is 99, compared to 102 in February and 105 last April.

In the major plays, the Permian Basin rig count is at 284 rigs, 15 less than February’s count.

In East Texas, the Eagle Ford has 47 active rigs, 1 less than in February.

The Haynesville rig count is 32 rigs, 2 more than February’s count.

The Anadarko rig count is 55 rigs, 6 more than in February.

The active rig count in the Niobrara is 29 rigs, the same as in February.

The Williston Basin rig count is 33 rigs, the same as the last count.

The Appalachian has 38 active rigs, 3 more than February’s count.
