Van Freight Rates – February 27, 2026
DAT.com’s February 24th Trendlines Report shows that current national van spot rates are $2.42 per mile, 10¢ above the January average. DAT reports the highest average van rates are in the Midwest at $2.82 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the West at $2.22 per mile.
DAT reports the current national van load-to-truck ratio is 8.29 loads-to-truck, compared to the January average of 6. Ratios are even across the country, except for lower ratios in California and Illinois.
Reefer Freight Rates – February 27, 2026
Reefer freight rates are averaging $2.90 per mile, 9¢ higher than the January average. Rates are highest in the Midwest, averaging $3.42 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, averaging $2.59 per mile.
National reefer capacity is 14.07 loads-to-truck compared to the January average of 14.42 loads-to-truck. Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is even across the country, with Illinois again being the exception with lower ratios.
Flatbed Freight Rates – February 27, 2026
National average flatbed rates are $2.70 per mile, 12¢ more than the January average. The Midwest has the highest average flatbed rates at $2.97 per mile. The lowest rates are in the West, averaging $2.31 per mile.
Nationally, flatbed load-to-truck ratios are at 56.92, compared to 37.3 in January. Load-to-truck ratios for flatbed freight are even across the country. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $3.81 per gallon, up 19¢ from one month ago and 11¢ from one year ago.
East Coast diesel prices are averaging $3.84 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $3.80 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $4.94 per gallon.
