Van Freight Rates – January 21, 2025
DAT.com’s January 21st Trendlines Report shows current national van rate averages are at $2.19 per mile, $0.08 more than the December average.
According to DAT, the highest average van rates are in the West at $2.43 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the Northeast at $2.00 per mile.
DAT reports the current national load-to-truck ratio is 7.43 loads-to-truck, compared to the December average of 6.14. Ratios are highest in the Western states. The lowest ratios are in the Midwestern states.
Reefer Freight Rates – January 21, 2025
Reefer freight rates are averaging $2.59 per mile, $0.11 higher than in December. Reefer rates are highest in the Midwest, averaging $2.92 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, with an average of $2.23 per mile.
National reefer capacity is at 10.82 loads-to-truck, compared to the December average of 8.76 loads-to-truck. Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is highest in the Northwestern states. The Southeastern states have the lowest load-to-truck ratios.
Flatbed Freight Rates – January 21, 2025
National average flatbed rates are $2.46 per mile, $0.07 more than the December average. The Midwest has the highest average flatbed rates at $2.63 per mile. The lowest rates are in the West, with an average of $2.24 per mile.
Nationally, load-to-truck ratios are at 25.84, compared to 15.68 in December. Load ratios are highest in the North and Northeast. The Midwest states have the lowest load-to-truck ratios. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $3.72 a gallon compared to $3.49 one month ago and is down $0.12 compared to one year ago.
East Coast diesel prices are averaging $3.82 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $3.65 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $4.81 per gallon.
