History

The first white settlers arrived in Carrollton during the early 1840s. It is believed that the settlers originated from Carrollton, Illinois, hence the name. With hopes of building a new home for themselves, the settlers first planted crops, then raised cattle and other livestock. Carrollton soon started developing from the construction of the railway lines. By 1888 the region had evolved into a shipping center for cotton, livestock, cottonseed, and grain. The city was incorporated in 1913 before becoming a key player in the gravel market. Carrollton has since managed to maintain growth.

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District is known for having excellent schools. It serves most of Carrollton.
