Current Active Drilling Rigs – June 2024

Up-to-date Trends and Reports

Over the past month, oil prices have trended up. Prices closed at $76.99 on May 31st. On June 4thrd, prices hit a low of $73.25. From there, prices have risen to a high of $81.29 on June 20th. Prices closed at $80.73 on June 21st.

The June 21st Baker Hughes rig count report shows a continuing decline in the active rig count. Baker Hughes reports 588 active drilling rigs in the US. One month ago, the total active rig count was 600. One year ago, the total active rig count was 682.

The oil rig count is currently 485 rigs, compared to 496 one month ago and 546 one year ago. The gas rig count is 98, compared to 100 one month ago and 130 last June.

In the major plays, the Permian Basin rig count is at 308 rigs, down 2 from the May count.

In east Texas, the Eagle Ford has 50 active rigs, 1 less than in May.

The Haynesville rig count is 36 rigs, the same as last month.

The Anadarko rig count is 35 rigs, 7 down from May.

The active rig count in the Niobrara is 25 rigs, the same as last month.

The Williston Basin rig count is 35 rigs, 1 up from the May count.

The Appalachian has 36 active rigs, 2 less than last month.
