Over the past month, oil prices have risen and fallen. On August 28th, prices hit a low of $80.10. From there, prices hit a high of $90.58 on September 18th. On August 26th, prices closed at $90.39.
The August 18th Baker Hughes rig count report shows a continuing decline in the active rig count. Baker Hughes reports 632 active drilling rigs in the US. One month ago, the total active rig count was 669. One year ago, the total active rig count was 765.
The oil rig count is currently 507 rigs, compared to 512 one month ago and 602 one year ago. The gas rig count is 118, compared to 115 one month ago and 160 last September.
In the major plays, the Permian Basin rig count is at 317 rigs, down three from the August count.
In east Texas, the Eagle Ford has 49 active rigs, three fewer than August.
The Haynesville rig count is 39 rigs, down three from last month.
The Anadarko rig count is 39 rigs, down three from August.
The active rig count in the Niobrara is 14 rigs, down 20 from last month.
The Williston Basin rig count is 32 rigs, down one from August.
The Appalachian has 48 active rigs, the same as the August count.
