Over the past month, oil prices have trended up. Prices closed at $83.71 on April 1st. On April 5th, prices hit a high of $86.91. From there, prices have fallen to a low of $81.90 on April 22nd. Prices closed at $83.85 on April 26th.
The April 26th Baker Hughes rig count report shows a continuing decline in the active rig count. Baker Hughes reports 613 active drilling rigs in the US. One month ago, the total active rig count was 624. One year ago, the total active rig count was 755.
The oil rig count is currently 506 rigs, compared to 509 one month ago and 591 one year ago. The gas rig count is 105, compared to 112 one month ago and 161 last April.
In the major plays, the Permian Basin rig count is at 317 rigs, up 2 from the March count.
In east Texas, the Eagle Ford has 55 active rigs, the same as in March.
The Haynesville rig count is 34 rigs, 2 less than last month.
The Anadarko rig count is 45 rigs, 1 up from March.
The active rig count in the Niobrara is 25 rigs, 2 less than last month.
The Williston Basin rig count is 34 rigs, the same as the March count.
The Appalachian has 40 active rigs, 2 less than last month.
